About this dish
A grilled cheese with cheddar and thin slices of red apple on buttered country bread, with onion marmalade if you have it. Cheddar and apple is an old English pairing, the same idea as a slice of cheddar with apple pie. The apple adds sweetness and a little acidity, which cuts through the melted cheese.
Ingredients
Preparation
Cut the apples into quarters, then cut each quarter into thin slices.
Spread the onion marmalade over two slices of bread (optional).
Place two slices of cheddar on one slice of bread. Add the apple slices and cover with the remaining two cheddar slices. Close the sandwich with the other slice of bread.
Melt a small piece of butter (or a drizzle of olive oil) in a pan over medium heat. Add the sandwich and cook for 3 to 4 minutes on each side, until the cheese is melted and the bread is golden. Watch that it doesn't burn!
Cut the sandwich in half if you like, and enjoy hot. It's ready!
